Students organize career-centered beauty pageant

A teacher and students from Locklin Technical Center in Milton will be hosting a career-focused beauty pageant Saturday. The first Miss Beauty that Works Pageant will allow girls who are competing to show off an outfit of her choice representing her future career field.

Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Santa Rosa Kids’ House, which provides services for abused children, is holding related awareness activities. Last year there were more than 1,500 reports of child abuse in Santa Rosa County, and the group hopes to curb that number through prevention efforts.

Two Holley by the Sea board members resign

Beth Walters and Dan Ramsey started out their two-year terms as Holley By the Sea Board members in July believing they were up to the challenge, but eight months later, both resigned within a week of each other for very different reasons.

Residents complete emergency response training

Fourteen area residents completed a 26-hour Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) course that ended with a mock disaster exercise March 30 at the Holley-Navarre Senior Center.  The Navarre Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) conducted the training over two consecutive weekends.

Pier restaurant delays continue

Coastal Concessions partners teamed up with local restaurateur Bob Benaquis to win the bid to operate the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier and open a full-service restaurant at the county-owned facility.
