Judge orders steps to aid manatees

Tallahassee – A federal judge Monday ordered the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to take a series of steps aimed at protecting manatees in the northern Indian River Lagoon, including requiring it to go through a federal permitting process and temporarily preventing new septic tanks in the area.

Tiger Point area man attacked by bear

A 45-year-old Tiger Point man was sent to the hospital after a bear attacked him Thursday morning, May 15.

The attack happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the backyard of the man’s home in the 1500 block of Joseph Circle. During the attack, he was bit in the leg. After deputies responded, the man was sent to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with a non-life-threatening injury.
