Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center opens new expansion

A staple on Navarre Beach, the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC) celebrated the long-awaited expansion of their facility Monday, May 19.

The 1,152 square foot facility features two rooms, one is used by the sea turtle stranding rescue team to store their equipment and the other houses a 3,000-gallon observation tank, along with educational conservation focused exhibits.

Florida Bear Hunt planned in December

(By Jim Turner) Amid support from hunters and warnings of a “slaughter” from animal-rights advocates, state wildlife officials Wednesday moved forward with Florida’s first black bear hunt in a decade.

Before a crowd that spread into at least four extra rooms at the College of Central Florida in Ocala, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted 4-1 for staff members to return with rules for a December hunt that would be held in four parts of the state and could lead to as many as 187 bears being killed.

Perhaps you’ve had the experience of seeing or hearing a bird fly into a picture window. Our home backs up to a woodlot and birds, seeing the woodlot’s reflection in the kitchen window, attempt to fly to it. Whenever that happens, regardless of the species, I mutter, “Crazy cardinal.”
