Deputies respond to a rollover at the intersection of Shipton Street and Seascape Lane Friday, June 4.

Residents along Shipton Street and Seascape Lane could hardly believe what they saw Friday afternoon. On the backroads of Navarre, at approximately 4:30 p.m., witnesses saw an orange Jeep traveling east at a high rate of speed overturn in the middle of the street, stopping short of careening into a neighboring occupied house and backyard.

Commissioner’s hearing delayed

Santa Rosa County District 2 Commissioner Bob Cole was scheduled June 5 to attend a mandatory hearing before County Judge Jose Giraud for a non-criminal Sunshine Law violation charge filed March 12 by State Attorney Bill Eddins. Cole faces a $500 fine.

Property tax revenues continue upswing

For the third consecutive year, Santa Rosa County property tax revenues are expected to increase. During Tuesday’s pre-budget workshop, Budget Director Jayne Bell projected a 2.1 percent increase of just over $1 million – but don’t expect commissioners to lower ad valorem assessments.

Black Hawk pilots lost control, crashed in thick fog 

A Black Hawk helicopter crashed last March, killing 11 servicemen, because two veteran Louisiana Army National Guard helicopter pilots got disoriented and lost control while switching from visual-based to instrument-based flight procedures in a thick fog during a training exercise, the military said June 4.
