Escambia County enacts new open container ordinance

Escambia County has adopted a new ordinance effective Mar. 1 restricting open containers in public areas of the commercial district of Pensacola Beach. Residents and visitors can no longer consume or possess any alcoholic beverages in an open container in the public areas within the commercial district like sidewalks, boardwalks, roads and parking lots. It is, however, permissible to have an open container on the sandy portions of the beach, except the family area of Casino Beach just west of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier.

An 86-year-old resident of Navarre, Maj. Robert M. Fletcher Sr., has seen more of the world than most people could see in two lifetimes. Fletcher served his county honorably in the United States Air Force for an exciting and adventurous 25 years; years of active duty which included tours in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He has lived an incredible and fruitful life.

Recently teachers and students from second grade at Vineland Elementary School in Rotonda West, and first grade at Lamarque Elementary School in North Port, decided that instead of exchanging holiday gifts, they would hold a pet food drive for the homeless animals at the Suncoast Humane Society. In other generous and selfless acts of kindness, individuals Elizabeth, Maddie and Jessica collected donations for the animals, in place of accepting birthday gifts from family, friends and neighbors.
