On-Bus camera system catches drivers ignoring school bus stop-arms

Across America millions of students travel to school in the more than 100,000 school buses that transport students daily, says Curtiss Routh of Radio Engineering Industries. As they get on or off the bus, each child is in danger of being hit by a motorist who disobeys the flashing red light of the bus’ stop- arm signal. Last year, nearly 76,000 illegal passes were documented during a one-day survey conducted nationwide – this translates to 13.68 million illegal passes annually.

Open season on ducks and turtles?

It sounds like Santa Rosa County is on a track to remove the wildlife which calls Navarre Park home.  The county says the ducks and turtles in the pond at the park are creating a health hazard and the whole thing should be removed, making way for the installation of a stormwater treatment system to enhance the water quality of the Sound….to the tune of $759,000.  Oh, and by the way, it would also make room for a planned amphitheater.

Out and About

It’s time for your business to join the Navarre Chamber of Commerce and get involved in the community.   When you join the chamber in the month of September, you’ll receive a $20 Gift Card to Cactus Flower Café.

Real Estate market climbs back

The Navarre real estate market is making its way back from the downward spiral of 2010.  Agents in Navarre and across the country remember the times of the 2006 real estate boom when buyers were bidding for well over list price to beat out another potential buyer, and the sales were plentiful.  Then the housing market crashed and Navarre’s market was no exception.  Loans went into default status and homes were foreclosed.  Sellers pulled back as the home prices dropped.  Buyers found it more difficult to qualify for a mortgage.

Lagerheads hosts pre-concert jam

Country on the Sound is fast approaching and a special event at Lagerheads on the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier has been added. “We want to give a teaser before the main event,” said Country on the Sound organizer Cortni Bird.
