A few months after filming his first music video at Juana’s with the locals, Andy Velo returned to Navarre Aug. 11 to host a free concert and unveil that video. Nearly 1,500 people were on the property for the live concert on the beach that preceded the video debut.
A three-car accident on U.S. Highway 98 in Navarre Aug. 11 left two vehicles significantly damaged. A white Ford four-door car was stopped at the intersection of Constitution Drive and Highway 98 at a stop sign and a yellow Ford Focus was westbound on Highway 98. A red Nissan Pathfinder was eastbound on Highway 98 in the left turn lane, preparing to turn onto Constitution Drive. Drivers in the westbound lane stopped to let the Pathfinder cross but the driver of the Focus did not see the Pathfinder. The Focus collided with the right side of the Pathfinder, causing the Pathfinder to overturn, with its rear hitting the left corner of the white Ford. No serious injuries were reported.
Although Santa Rosa teachers union members are likely to reject a new contract that reduces the size of their raises, the school district can impose the lower amount for one year.

Population growth has caused the number of reported crimes in Santa Rosa County since Jan. 1 to be slightly higher when compared to the same period last year, Sheriff Bob Johnson told an audience at the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Aug. 11.
During its first week of meetings, the new Holley by the Sea homeowner’s association board addressed a variety of topics, including discussion of a proposed $1.35 million renovation of the recreation center to make it more accessible for all members.
The Board of County Commissioners directed staff Aug. 10 to prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) for flood mitigation efforts related to the Holley by the Sea homeowners’ association.
The number of reported Cyclospora infections is up 134 percent nationwide from last year, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Between May 1 and Aug. 2 this year, 206 cases of cyclosporiasis were reported in persons who became infected in the United States. During the same period last year, 88 cases were reported to the CDC.
“One hundred years ago, 1879, was the last U.S. continental coast to coast total solar eclipse,” said Dr. Wayne Wooten, astronomer and newly retired astronomy professor from Pensacola State College (PSC).
Through the centuries, little research has been done on animal behavior during solar eclipses, but what little data and anecdotal information is out there paints a weird picture.
