Navarre local helping save turtles beyond Navarre

Navarre Beach Fishing Pier is the number one pier in Florida for successful sea turtle stranding efforts.

According to the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC), they have saved 45 from the pier in 2023 alone. In 2022, they saved 50 sea turtles at the pier.

A look at water quality at Navarre Park and Beach

According to Environment America, a nonprofit environmental research and policy center, roughly one-half of America’s beaches had potentially unsafe contamination levels in 2022.

Out of 3,192 beaches, 1,761 experienced at least one day on which fecal contamination reached potentially unsafe levels.

Nonprofit helps turtles move across country

The Emerald Coast is no stranger to sea turtles in need of help. Sea turtles get caught at fishing piers, are injured by boats and find themselves entrapped by plastic and other items that find their way into the ocean.

Enter at your own risk

“Who is going to protect the swimmers?” asked a woman during the public forum portion of the Santa Rosa County board of commissioners meeting.

Fishermen showed up to speak against proposed measures to ban shark fishing west of the pier. The question of protecting swimmers was posed.

Tourist development council highlights tourism advertising efforts

The Tourist Development Office, which is responsible for promoting tourism throughout Santa Rosa County, gave an overview of their campaign to bring more tourists from the Nashville area of Tennessee to Northwest Florida at the Nov. 3 Tourist Development Council meeting.

In July, Julie White, the tourist development director for Santa Rosa County, and her team went to a Nashville event to introduce Navarre Beach to a new audience. They had a special vacation giveaway in which people could enter to win a trip to the beach.

We are excited for the fun of the Beaches to Woodlands tour to begin as they celebrate their 19th anniversary of connecting north and south Santa Rosa County with events.

We hope you will take part in the fun and venture up to the north end of the county for some adventure there as well. There is an outline of events with dates in this issue.
