Forty-one percent of students take their lunches to school. In February, the Government Accountability Office reported that participation in the National School Lunch Program had declined 3.7 percent over the last three school years.
Football is starting tonight – Thursday – with the Raiders playing in Milton for the Kick-off Classic. The JV teams play in the first quarter, the reserve players from the varsity teams play in the second quarter, and the first-string varsity players take the field for the entire second half. Milton has won the kick-off classic the past two years. Of course we hope the Raiders start their year off with a win, but regardless it doesn’t count – officially. The game begins at 7 p.m.
Dozens of children squealed with delight while sliding down giant waterslides at the Midway Fire Department’s annual open house Aug. 16. The fun-filled event has been held for 30 years, but in recent years waterslides and kiddie pools were added to the activities, making it a splashy end-of-summer celebration.
