Group supporting Navarre’s incorporation seeks signatures

The Citizens to Incorporate Navarre Political Action Committee is actively seeking signatures in an effort to persuade county officials to put a nonbinding straw poll to gauge interest in Navarre becoming a city on the August 26 primary ballot. The group met last night at the Navarre Conference Center to provide an update on their efforts.

Whiting to participate in anti-terrorism exercise

Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field – NAS Whiting Field is participating in Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield ’14, an anti-terrorism/force protection exercise that will be conducted on all continental United States Naval installations through Feb. 28. The exercise began Feb. 18.

Grants strengthen Santa Rosa’s military ties

Recently Santa Rosa County was awarded two defense-related state grants. A $200,000 infrastructure grant will be used to continue property acquisitions to buffer NAS Whiting Field operations, and an $80,000 grant will be used to fund military support services, including a study of local military retirees.

Eglin Civil Air Patrol visits Hurricane Hunters

Eglin Air Force Base – Eglin Eagles of the Civil Air Patrol had the opportunity recently to tour the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance squadron at Keesler Air Force Base, near Biloxi, Miss. Squadron members were also treated to a tour of the 403rd Maintenance Group Propulsion Flight and shown the operations in maintaining the WC-130s for their weather missions.

5k to honor Santos, benefit colon cancer patients

Lisa Santos wants participants and attendees at the “Raise Your Voice 5k” on Navarre Beach March 1 to celebrate local residents who are currently battling colon cancer. Her son, Josh Lee Santos, died from colon cancer related complications in November 2012 at the age of 24.

I bet you think the earth is still flat

Publisher Sandy Kemp made a remark in her column on Feb. 6, regarding the movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, and global warming. I suppose she cannot see beyond her own back yard, and certainly chooses to be willfully ignorant regarding what is happening to the planet. I am older than you and remember studying about greenhouse gases in the early 70’s largely caused by carbon emissions of the industrial age.

Bills were introduced last week in the Florida Senate and Florida House of Representatives, which would decriminalize the use of cannabidol (CBD), a non-euphoric ingredient found in some marijuana plants, for treatment of children suffering from violent seizures associated with severe epilepsy.
