Vatican exhibit at St. Sylvester

An exhibition created and sanctioned by the Vatican is being hosted through Sunday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church. The Eucharistic Miracles of the World exhibition opened March 21.

What a special ‘Cat in the Hat’

Kathy Rohrig’s fourth-graders at West Navarre Primary had achieved their reading goals and to celebrate a “mystery reader” was going to visit the class March 7 and read Dr. Seuss’ “Happy Birthday to You” story. Mississippi-based Southern Pipe and Supply opened its newest branch location about three weeks ago in Navarre. The company is leasing a facility at 7534 Navarre Parkway, previously occupied by Bayview Flooring and Interiors.

Warriors hit the waves

Organizers expect the 3rd Annual Navarre Beach Surf Warriors event will send four or five participants to the East Coast Surfing Championship in August to compete in the wounded warrior division. CJ Stein said she expects 15 wounded warriors to participate this year in the six lesson program that begins May 3.

Supreme Court OK’s beach taxes

The Florida Supreme Court voted unanimously March 20 that Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser Greg Brown was correct in assessing property taxes on leased land and structures on Navarre Beach. Brown began assessing property taxes on Navarre Beach leaseholders shortly after taking office in 2001 – a move he says has generated $81 million in revenue. Roughly $3.65 million more is now expected for interest fees on a portion of that revenue which remained unpaid.

New city better off after incorporation

Only three communities have incorporated in Florida since 2005 and the largest one based on population is Cutler Bay. The city of approximately 42,000 people is located in Miami-Dade County.
