The Navarre Krewe of Jesters would like to thank everyone who worked with us to make the 28th annual Navarre Beach Mardi Gras Parade a huge success. This was the largest parade we have ever presented, and it promises to be even bigger – and earlier – next year.  We have been contacted by additional krewes in the area who have expressed interest in entering floats in the 2015 parade already.

Gas prices still climbing

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Florida increased a penny last week and now stands at $3.46, just below the national average price of $3.49. When compared with the average price in Florida a year ago, motorists are saving 0.32 cents per gallon.

Powerhouse speakers to promote excellence at biz conference

The Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce is set to host its inaugural Excellence in Business & Leadership Conference April 24 at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach. Organizers have lined up what they describe as an unprecedented group of speakers which they hope will attract leaders from all industries together to network and to learn tangible best practices.

Business workshop to focus on financials

Sharon Triplett from the University of West Florida Small Business Development Center will present “Growing Wealth in Your Business” at 11:30 a.m., March 18 at the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, 8543 Navarre Parkway. It is part of the “Jump Start Your Business Workshop Series” sponsored by the chamber and Navarre Press.

High-tech firm receives private investment

Private investors have completed a strategic capital transaction with Navarre-based Kobetron, Inc., a manufacturer of standard and specialized test equipment for the regulated gaming industry. According to a press release, the investors, James Maida and Paul Magno, have acquired substantially all the assets of the company and will continue to operate under the name Kobetron, LLC.

Family event to benefit sea turtle center

The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center may be closed for expansion, but announced last week that they are preparing to host their first-ever fundraising event, “The Amazing Race for Survival” at Navarre Beach Park April 5. The funds raised by this event will support the NBSTCC’s future growth and sea turtle conservation efforts.

New 7-story hotel on horizon

Construction is set to begin on a 161-room Gulf front hotel on the site of the former Holiday Inn on Navarre Beach, which was torn down in 2005 after damage from Hurricane Ivan. Property owners recently submitted site and foundation plans to Santa Rosa County.

New lane to ease beach traffic congestion

Work to add an additional north bound left turn lane and turn signal on to U.S. 98 from the Navarre Beach Causeway will begin next week. Currently the intersection has a dedicated right turn lane and one left turn lane.
