With warmer temperatures and water standing in yards and fields, northwest Florida residents will want to be on the look-out for snakes. Santa Rosa County, as part of its Flooding Update #8, referenced the fact that snakes, insects and other wildlife are moving to survive as water levels change and that residents should monitor the area when outside, especially when with pets or children.

A local social media post April 24 showed a picture of an alligator reportedly in a roadside ditch along Edgewood Drive north of Marlin Street. According to a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the best policy is to keep your distance and leave the alligator alone.

Although it may still be a bit jarring for some, it’s becoming more common to see people holding what looks like a cigarette, exhaling clouds of a milky white substance into the air at public places including shopping malls, grocery stores and airports.

Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward and other city and community leaders gathered April 25 in Plaza Ferdinand VII in downtown Pensacola to promote the installation of 20 new bike racks along Palafox Street.
