East Milton success story lures gubernatorial campaign

Florida Governor Rick Scott is hoping more than 620,300 new private-sector jobs created since he took office will lead to his re-election. He’s on bus tour with other state leaders, campaigning on tax cuts and economic growth. The “Let’s Keep Working” campaign stopped Sept. 10 in East Milton, highlighting The Ropella Group’s success as an example of how the state economy is prospering.

SWEET REVENGE

For the second week in a row the Raiders faced a 6 ft – 6 in quarterback that has committed to a Division 1 college program. For the second week in a row Navarre has faced a 6 ft- 6 in receiver that will be playing football on Saturdays. While it wasn’t always easy, for the second time in as many weeks, the Navarre defense did enough to slow down those big time recruits and help secure a win.

Teachers gain faithful support

Local teachers were treated to an appreciation luncheon Sept. 6 at the Saltwater Cottage in Navarre. Teachers from schools in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties made their way over to the outdoor eating area at the Cottage at 11 a.m. to indulge in a gourmet lunch spread complete with breads, cheeses, sandwiches dips, cakes, fruit and more.

Time to Incorporate Navarre

Over the years I’ve seen many changes in Navarre, some that would not have been my choice. As it is, only one person is charged with representing the 42,000 residents of Navarre.  One commissioner out of five speaks for us.  It is time to incorporate – to be our own voice.

The Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court receives recognition

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Don Spencer and Santa Rosa County by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Regatta regales sailors

Juana’s Annual Regatta set a record this year with more than 100 watercraft and windsurfers participating in the annual event held in the Navarre Sound. The sound was filled with colorful boats and sail boats as they tacked for position before the 11 a.m. start on Sept. 6. They tried to time their approach to the starting line just as the horn blew for the start of the distance race.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Here’s a look by the numbers at the nation’s worst offshore oil disaster, which occurred in April 2010 when BP PLC’s Macondo well blew, resulting in an explosion and deaths aboard the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon. The rig was owned by Switzerland-based Transocean Ltd., operating under contract to BP.

Gulf Breeze mayor resigns

Gulf Breeze mayor Beverly Zimmern and Mayor Pro Tem J.B. Schluter announced to city staff on Friday that they would not be seeking another term in office. Friday was also the last day for Gulf Breeze candidates to file their intentions to seek a city office.
