The longtime sharing of county tourism tax dollars with the City of Gulf Breeze, which was abruptly halted last fall, will be restarted under a new written agreement that remits to the municipality 90 percent of the money collected by hotels within its borders.
This elusive group is elusive for a reason. They are very humble and do not want any recognition. “Our primary focus is to have the 11 families here for a remembrance ceremony – we do not want any credit,” said one of the members. After a lot of arm twisting, we were able to get the names of those behind the ceremony and the housing and feeding for the more than 150 family members that will be in Navarre this week. They are, Tammy Jones, Jerry Foster, Donna Sue Harvell, Adam Teichner, and Patrick Fitzgerald.
Six weeks ago, Gail Stangeland heard on the radio that the families of the 11 service members who perished in the Black Hawk crash on March 10, 2015, were coming to Navarre for a remembrance ceremony. “I was passing by the makeshift memorial on the Navarre Causeway and it really bothered me,” Stangeland recounted. “I knew the wives would be here and I wanted something for them.”

An 86-year-old resident of Navarre, Maj. Robert M. Fletcher Sr., has seen more of the world than most people could see in two lifetimes. Fletcher served his county honorably in the United States Air Force for an exciting and adventurous 25 years; years of active duty which included tours in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He has lived an incredible and fruitful life.
Matt Cushing still remembers the phone call in which he was asked to assist in the search for the Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into the Santa Rosa Sound on a dreary night in early March.
The resurrection-focused film “Risen,”directed by Kevin Reynolds hit theaters Feb. 19 of this year. According to the film-information website Box Office Mojo, the production budget from the Sony-owned production company Affirm Films sat at a solid $20 million for the film. With fierce competition in the theaters from other films such as “Deadpool” however, “Risen”only garnered about $12.5 million in the box office in the film’s opening weekend. One of the larger budgeted religious films since ‘Passion of the Christ” in 2004, this film appears to be representative of a growing favoritism toward faith-based films in Hollywood.
After years of hemorrhaging red ink, Tiger Point Golf Club has become profitable under the operation of an Orlando-based management company, Integrity Golf, which leased the facility from the City of Gulf Breeze in October.
