WoodStoke Pottery and Kiln Festival on the calendar

The Gulf Coast Kiln Walk Society, Inc. will be hosting the 20th Annual WoodStoke Pottery and Kiln Festival on Saturday, Feb. 8, starting at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.  A historical wood-fueled kiln will be unloaded during the festival. This event will be held at the Kiln Walk site at 7507 Buckeye Drive in Holley.

Navarre earns runner-up finish at district weightlifting meet

Runner-up isn’t bad at all when one considers Navarre was in a District 1-3A girls weightlifting meet on Saturday that featured back-to-back state champion Pace.


The Raiders placed second in Olympic and traditional in the highly competitive meet at Pace as the road to state began. Double champions Izzy Zach and Olivia Hall led the way.

It’s no secret Navarre residents love their animals, and their wildlife. On any given day, you can find Navarre residents posting pictures of their pets, bears, foxes, or visiting the Gulf Breeze Zoo and Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge or serving as volunteers at the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center. When animals need help, a core group of residents jump into action.

For God’s Sake

My wife and I pray together most mornings before one of us leaves the house for our workday. Our prayer is always the same, “Lord, we are yours and this day is yours. We ask you to fill us with your Spirit and use us for your glory.” One day last week, having prayed with my wife and seen her out the door, a question popped into my mind: God, are you tired of hearing the same prayer from us day after day?

Out and About

We are working on finishing up all three of our newspapers on Monday while wondering if the driver is going to be able to bring them to us from Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday evening like he normally does. We attempted to print earlier to get ahead of the storm, but the company that owns the press prioritizes their own papers first – of course – and no can do. They were really nice about it – but the facts are the facts.  And we would do the same if we owned the printing press. There is a good chance you are reading this – at best on Thursday, but probably on Friday.

Five decades ago, Steve Janke was in a warzone. He had been sent to Vietnam and served during the middle portion of the war, from 1970 to 1971, at Cam Ranh Air Base.

Despite the fact Janke hasn’t been in a war in over 50 years, he is still does battle with the enemy. Only this time, its for his congregants’ souls. Janke serves as lead pastor of Open Door Baptist Church, an Independent Baptist congregation which meets at Hampton Inn & Suites Navarre each Sunday.
