Opinion, Out and About

Out and About

| Sandi Kemp
All the signs of the season are here! The sun is shining, temperatures are warm, cobia are running and the nesting shorebirds are back. I know everyone complains about slowing down across the causeway for them, but we do it for good reason. The black skimmers are a threatened species of bird and our shorelines are one of the largest nesting habitats in the region. So, from now until October, slow down for the safety of the chicks. You can read more about this on the Navarre Beach page (1D).

Sunset Stampede (Navarre Press is a sponsor) happens May 4 and is a spectacular sunset 5K along White Sands Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. We have beautiful sunsets here and this has to make running or walking a 5K even more special. See their ad in this issue for more information.

Our outside cat, Kitty Kat had two little munchkins a few weeks ago. She is feral and we are working to get her to the vet for spaying and her little ones for shots and a checkup. The kittens are almost identical twins with the same markings on them. In fact, we had to do a double take when we first saw them because they looked exactly alike. They are healthy and playing with each other. But Kitty Kat thinks being a mother is exhausting work – and she is right. She sneaks away whenever she can for a special treat from one of us and a nap on the front porch.
