Out and About

Mardi Gras is just around the corner. The Krewe of Jesters have crowned their King, Dan Loftin; Queen, Yolie Donley; Queen of Hearts, JoAnn Loftin; and Lester the Jester, LeAnn Whichard. The Grand Marshall this year is Santa Rosa County District Four Commissioner, Dave Piech. The Mardi Gras Ball is Feb.16 and the 33rd annual parade is the following Saturday, Feb. 23. If you want to go to the ball or have a float or presence in the parade go to www.nkoj.org to find out more information.
Sailor’s Grill at the Pagoda’s is remodeling and should be done in time for the Mardi Gras crowds. They are adding additional seating by eliminating one kitchen and enlarging another kitchen. However, they are still open for business though other restaurants that are remodeling have closed – Waffle House and Johnny Huston’s. We are all expecting an awesome summer. Instead of the call to urgency that you will see on Game of Thrones, “Winter is Coming,” in Navarre – it is “Summer is Coming.” Summer is just around the corner and when you receive this paper, we will already have one/twelfth of 2019 behind us. We all have the same number of days in the week and hours in the day. It is what is accomplished during the hours and the days, weeks and months that matters.
I hope you are enjoying Michael Bannon’s columns and articles on the Faith page. This week – I have to take the credit and/or the blame for idea to review “Loud Krazy Love.” I had heard about a documentary on Showtime about the hard rock band “KoRn” and their lead guitarist, Brian “Head” Welch’s change in priorities upon the arrival of his daughter and how he found God. Sources say he walked out on a $23 million record deal in the process. It is kind of a riches to rags to riches story…but adds a different meaning to “riches” in the end. I had not watched the documentary myself when I asked Michael to review it. I had to apologize after I saw it because it has some raw scenes and language. Michael probably wondered what he had gotten himself into. Thankfully Michael was very cool about it and wrote what you will find on the Faith page of this issue. Life can be messy – and complicated.
Put March 30 on your calendar. That is the inaugural Ye Olde Brothers’ Craft Beer Festival. Details coming soon.
