Out and About

Our first responders do a lot for us by the very nature of their jobs, but they are also giving back in a big way this holiday season. Read all about it in this issue on page 2B.
We have a very memorable and endearing story about Lulu Jahn who lives in Navarre and became an American Citizen just before Thanksgiving – giving her even more to be thankful for.
There is also a story in this issue about the launch of Paw Pad Pet Food Pantry which provides food for pets in hopes that the pets do not end up in our over burdened shelters.
And, speaking of animal rescues, we have been receiving several calls about black cats hanging around the Navarre Press office. Apparently, the word is out that we take in black cat strays and they are congregating here. There is at least one Tom cat – and there is a new black kitten and we aren’t sure what his/her intentions are. We appreciate the concerns for Inkie but she has never ventured outdoors and if she did, she wouldn’t know what to do. Besides, she knows she has it very cushy here with ten people loving on her all day. I even caught stoic Dickie bringing back cat treats from his lunch break. I guess she has gotten to Dickie. I knew she would.
You will also read in this issue about Navarre Beach’s first “Beach Safety Director,” Austin Turnbull. His resume includes years of experience and qualifications for his job including being certified as a firefighter paramedic. He wants our lifeguards to be the best in the country – and he sounds like he can make it happen.
