Opinion, Out and About

Out and About

| Sandi Kemp
Run With It in Fort Walton Beach is celebrating 10 years in business.  For those of you who may not know, Run With It started in Navarre at the Publix shopping plaza. They had an opportunity for more space and moved to downtown Fort Walton Beach and have kept growing. They are the best place to buy running or walking shoes and accessories. They also have awesome fitness clothes.  I bought a pair of running shoes there and my daughter took them – never to be seen again until it was time to replace them after several marathons. I still exercise in a pair of shoes that I bought there – when they were still in Navarre. However, I don’t run marathons – so they have lasted.  Run With It will celebrate their anniversary at the store on September 29th with sales, food and beverages.

Pet Nation in Navarre (at the Publix shopping center) is collecting Hurricane Florence new/gently used pet items for rescue efforts.

Diamond Works in Mary Esther has new arrivals.  See their ad in this issue and visit the store or DiamondWorksJewelry.com for more information.

We have several series of articles planned that will be awesome – as usual.

We are happy to see that the Fish Fry that was ONLY advertised in Navarre Press and Sandpaper Publishing products, Navarre Beach News and Holley by the Sea News – is sold out. If you bought your Fish Fry tickets – the Fish Fry is this Friday. Don’t forget to go – like I usually do.

Also, this Friday is the Homecoming Football Game where the Homecoming Queen will be crowned. The Homecoming Court for each class are pictured in this issue.

We have an awesome story in this issue about doing business in Santa Rosa County. We are very fortunate that the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has office hours for the Small Business Administration inside their office space.  Adam McCloskey is there 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and other times by appointment. Anyone thinking of starting a business or buying a business or even a struggling business should stop by to see him for his helpful and very informative free advice. And, there is a story on page 4A of this issue that you should read.

We are embarking on exciting times in Santa Rosa County. The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge Educational and Outreach Center is a contender for the Impact 100 Grant. We should all do what we can do to improve their chance of a $100,000 grant. The Miracle League of Santa Rosa County and 4-H Club in Santa Rosa County are also contenders.

The movies at the beach have been awesome. And – it is getting darker – earlier. They are starting the movies at 7:30 p.m. because that is when it is dark enough to show them. The sound system has been awesome. This week – in case you picked up your paper at a Tom Thumb or Publix on Wednesday afternoon – is Dirty Dancing. Next week is a personal favorite of mine, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” which came out in 1986 – the year my 32-year-old son was born.  I guess it was like a parenting tip – what to watch out for.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” said by the character – Ferris Bueller – in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” 1986
