Elected Officials are held to a higher standard

| Staff Reporters
The men and women whom we elect to represent us, and safeguard the reputation of our county, should always conduct themselves in a way that will not bring disrespect to themselves, the office that they hold or our county. Today Santa Rosa County’s District Four finds itself represented by someone who does not adhere to those values.

I have found myself questioning many of the actions of Commissioner Rob Williamson. The answers I have been led to have left me believing that the people of Santa Rosa County, and specifically District Four, could be better represented.

I asked myself, why would Commissioner Rob Williamson, go out in the middle of the night to rip down and remove a sign that the majority of the other Commissioners had voted to spend taxpayer dollars to purchase and erect; a sign that he pushed the county commissioners to approve.  In the end Commissioner Williamson didn’t have enough of a connection with his local constituents to know they would be upset with the removal of the iconic sign that he voted to remove.

I ask you, do you want a commissioner that makes this kind of decision to represent you or our county?

I also asked myself why Commissioner Rob Williamson challenged a fellow commissioner to “go out back” of their offices to settle an issue.  This challenge was the result of Chairman Bob Cole having to address a problem brought to the board by a citizen from District Four who had been ignored by Mr. Williamson.  This embarrassing incident was revealed to me by Commissioner Cole during a recent conversation.

I believe that as citizens of Santa Rosa County we deserve better.  Only by electing those that will live up to a higher standard-that they take an oath to uphold-can we bring true and effective change to county government.

It is for this reason I am supporting Dave Piech for Santa Rosa County Commissioner District 4 in this election. I urge you all to do the same.
