The Gulf Breeze Dolphins proved to be nice bookends for the Raiders’ season. After falling in their first two games, Navarre picked up their first regular season win against the Dolphins. On April 15, the Raiders got their final regular season win at Gulf Breeze.

About 36,000 runners took part in the 2014 Boston Marathon April 21. One local runner who longed to be there was Navarre resident Lori Dierig, who ran Boston in 2013.

At the super qualifier meet held at Fort Walton Beach, only the first place winners in a weight division earn a ticket to the state championships. The second, third and fourth place finishers are placed into a state lottery system and are chosen after all of the super qualifier events have been completed.

Milton 2, Navarre 1

The Raiders traveled to Milton on April 8 and lost a nail biter, 2 – 1.  The Raider offense only managed 3 hits in the game. Hanna Stapleton pitched five strong innings for the Raiders and gave up only one hit and no runs. The Raiders took a one run lead into the sixth inning. Coach Kim Smith brought Taelor Smith in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith hit the first batter she faced and then gave up a game winning home run to the next batter.

The Raiders and Milton met April 2 for a practice meet prior to the sectional meet April 11. Navarre won the meet by a 56 to 33 score.

Strong performances in the hurdles and jumping events secured the Lady Raiders 42 points and a fifth place finish in the Andrews Invitational, April 4 in Gulf Breeze. The Raiders finished seven with 32.5 points and were led by a first place finish for Roman Spear in the Pole Vault and a second place finish by Christian Gill in the Shot Put.

An injury-plagued Navarre Lady Raiders softball team lost three games during the week. Kassidy Griffin will be lost for the season with a broken hand. Kolette Jones injured her knee in the Tate game and will have a follow-up visit with the doctor this week. Pitcher Allison ‘Cat’ Pettigrew left the team.

Navarre High School fielded their first baseball team in 1999. Since then, the Raiders faced the Pace Patriots on the baseball diamond about 30 times. Countless players, coaches and fans never experienced the thrill of victory over the rivals from the north end of the county. That all changed Monday, March 31 in Pace.
