The biggest surprise that came out of the District 1-3A track meet two weeks ago may have been the emergence of Navarre High School triple-jump third-place finisher, Elijah Appel. The senior football star and sprinter came out of nowhere to become a medal winner and, last week, to become one of just two Raiders who qualified for the Class 3A state championship meet Friday, May 3, at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

The Navarre High School baseball team advanced to the second round of a district tournament for the first time in four years with a dramatic 13-inning win against Milton, but the Raiders’ struggles against Pace continued in the District 1-6A semifinals. The Patriots claimed a 5-3 victory April 24 at Tate High School in Cantonment despite managing just three hits against Navarre pitching.

The Lady Raiders’ softball team easily defeated Washington in the opening round of the District 1-6A tournament April 16 at Milton. Two days later, the same Navarre High School bats that scored 15 runs in two innings against the Wildcats were virtually silent against Pace as the Raiders lost 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel.

Robby Miller’s unassisted double play in the bottom of the 13th inning Monday preserved a 4-3 Navarre High School win, ended Milton’s baseball season and sent the Raiders into the District 1-6A baseball semifinals.
