Lady Raider lifters win third state title in 4 years

The defending champion Raiders wanted nothing less than another team victory as they traveled to Kissimmee on Feb. 6 to compete in the state Girls’ Weightlifting tournament. If they could pull off a win, it would be their third state championship in the last four years. During the years they did not win the team trophy, they placed second.

Hayes pumped to lead Raiders into new softball season

Navarre’s softball team is under new leadership. Kelly Hayes, a former Raider, is the new head coach and was pleased with how things played out the first time the team took the field in a game.

The Raiders crushed Fort Walton Beach 14-3 in five innings in a preseason game Wednesday.

Scott Murphy, second-year head baseball coach

Arguably, the 2015 Navarre baseball season was the most successful in school history. It included the program’s first 20- win season, the first district title since 2002 and a regional semi-final appearance.

While all of those accomplishments are impressive, second-year head coach Scott Murphy has moved on from the successes of 2015.

The Raiders easily won the Regional (also called the sectionals or state qualifying) meet at Navarre on Jan. 19. The Raiders scored 103 points in the meet. The next closest team was Pine Forest, scoring 26 points.
