After an unplanned bye week, Navarre’s football team is set to return to the field Friday night when it takes on county rival Milton on the road in a 7:30 p.m. game.

The Raiders (1-0) were off last week after Warren Easton out of New Orleans was forced to cancel its trip over to Navarre due to Hurricane Ida.

Coming off a win over Division I McNeese State last week, the University of West Florida football team now shifts its attention to its home opener Saturday night against Southwest Baptist.

The reigning NCAA Division II champions will face the Bearcats at 6 p.m. at Pen Air Field. It will be the first game ever played at the on-campus field.

Navarre head boys golf coach Clark Brown had no complaints about the way his team performed in its opening match of the season last Tuesday afternoon at Tanglewood.

The Raiders finished second and the top four golfers that factored into the scoring shot under 50.

Grace Koch nearly gave up on swimming after last season. But a new state and a new team revived her passion for a sport she’s been involved in since fourth grade.

Koch’s dad is an assistant coach on the Navarre Raider softball team, so Koch ended up moving to Florida from Texas. She’s happy with the decision.

Navarre wraps up its typical Thursday morning practice just before 8:30 a.m. and while the Raiders knew there would be no game on Friday night against Warren Easton, that didn’t change their attitude or approach to practice.

“It hasn’t stopped us from working,” senior quarterback Kyle Chambers said. “We still have Milton to prepare for. We can’t take any time off.”

Two former Navarre Raider soccer players made their mark at the University of West Florida over the weekend.

Kileigh Whited recorded an assist for the Argonauts in their 3-1 win over St. Mary’s Sunday in Texas. Jack Patching tallied an assists for the UWF men’s team in its 1-1 tie with St. Leo Sunday.
