The road to a Gulf South Conference continues today for the University of West Florida football team.

Fresh off a thrilling comeback win over Delta State a week ago in their GSC opener, the top-ranked and unbeaten Argos battle North Greenville at 7 p.m. EST at Younts Stadium in Tigerville, South Carolina.

Even with the game nearly over, the time on the clock inching toward the two-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Navarre clung to a sliver of hope on this mild October Homecoming night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Chants of defense filled the Raider sideline, the players on that side of the ball coming up with another big second-half stop on fourth down to keep hope alive of an improbable comeback.

September ended on a high note for Navarre’s football team, with the Raiders winning two consecutive games to close out the month.

With the arrival of October, however, the schedule doesn’t get any easier, starting with Friday night’s Homecoming game against unbeaten Mosley.

Navarre has jumped up one spot in this week’s FHSAA 7A regional rankings.

The Raiders are one of two teams in the area ranked in the top eight of Region 1-7A.

Playing its first game on campus in school history last Friday night, Lighthouse Private Christian Academy fell short in its bid to upset the reigning 1A state champions.

The Stingrays lost 9-0 to sixth-ranked Baker.

Brandon Rosendale paced Navarre in a match against Gulf Breeze last week at Tiger Point, shooting a 43. Drew Ottley carded a 46 and Brady Nevius shot a 47. Preston Lam checked in with a 53.

Navarre head coach Clark Brown said one of the biggest challenges for his team has been the limited practice time the team has had due to issues with the course flooding at Hidden Creek.

Scott Murphy knew when he was in college the odds were stacked against him to one day play Major League Baseball.

But while playing college ball at Tulane, the current Navarre High School Athletic Director had a chance to pitch against future big leaguers and jokes that he played a part in their ability to make it as a pro, including San Francisco Giants great Will Clark.

The challenging schedule Navarre’s volleyball team has played this season has helped keep it ranked in the upper half of the 6A regional rankings.

The Raiders remain in the top eight this week and are ranked 17th in the state in 6A.

Senior linebacker Devin Wright keeps it simple when talking about the success Navarre has enjoyed on the defensive side of the ball in the first four games of the season.

It all comes down to everyone knowing their role and playing it well.

Navarre’s volleyball team faces one of its biggest tests of the season tonight when it squares off against Pensacola Catholic.

The Crusaders are ranked ninth in the entire state of Florida and second in 2A. Navarre is currently ranked 14th in 6A.
