Ava Parker is the new record holder in the 100 Freestyle at Navarre.

The junior standout set the new mark Saturday afternoon at the Patriot Invitational at the University of West Florida Aquatic Center.

On the road in a tough environment – not to mention a three-point halftime deficit — the University of West Florida football team looked adversity in the eyes and didn’t blink.

Instead, the reigning NCAA Division II champions dominated the second half of a Top 25 matchup on their way to a 35-17 victory.

Kyle Chambers rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another score while the defense dominated the second-half as Navarre shook off a slow start and buried Tate 35-14 in the District 1-7A opener for both teams Friday night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Trailing 14-12, Chambers threw the go-ahead touchdown pass with 1:30 to play until halftime as the Raiders took the their first lead of the night and never looked back.

Nick Brahms and the Auburn Tigers are playing in prime time Saturday night when they head to Happy Valley to take on Penn State.

With a white out planned at Beaver Stadium and a capacity crowd of more than 106,000 expected for it, the atmosphere will be loud and electric but that doesn’t bother Brahms, a Navarre alum and starter on the Auburn offensive line.

Joey Indelicato, Juan Martinez and Kolby Vitale are the only players returning from last season’s baseball team.

They just spent the summer leading the way for Navarre during workouts and are happy with the steps the Raiders took in the early stages of their preparation for the 2022 season.

Not only is Navarre aiming to bounce back this week after suffering their first loss of the season, but the Raiders are also looking to take their first step toward a district championship.

They’ll get a chance to accomplish both goals Friday when they battle Tate in a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

The University of West Florida women’s soccer team is ranked fourth in the nation in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Navarre’s own Kileigh Whited plays on the team and has helped the Argonauts get off to a strong start to their season.
