But after a delay to start her senior softball season, the Gulf Coast State commit got back on the field late last month and seems to be getting back to her usual self and in her regular position behind the plate as a standout catcher for the Navarre Raiders.

As far as debuts go, things couldn’t have gone much better for Navarre Raider flag football coach Jason Kisor. His team was ready to roll in its season opener against Niceville Wednesday night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium, with the Raiders coming away with a 19-6 win over the Eagles, the district runner-up a year ago.

During a timeout late in the action of a lacrosse game Tuesday night at Jim Scoggins Stadium, the score all tied up, Brady Payton, one of four captains for the Navarre Raiders, challenged the team to get back on track and close the game out. That energy within the huddle seemed to carry over to the field as Navarre scored four goals over the final five minutes of play to secure a 12-8 road win over the Pensacola Tigers.

An early-season showdown with a program featuring a former Navarre assistant, a trip to Alabama, and, of course, the Beach Bowl rivalry, are among the highlights of the Raiders’ 2023 football schedule. After a preseason game at home against West Florida Tech on Aug. 18, the Raiders will kick off the regular season at Bennett C. Russell Stadium against Pensacola Catholic on Aug. 25. A week later, they make a trip over to Pensacola for a Sept. 1 game against Pine Forest.
