Season comes to an end for Navarre flag football team

A team that once looked like it had no shot of even contending for a district championship, dropping its first five games, Navarre gained momentum down the stretch and put itself in the mix.

And after shutting out Tate 12-0 in its District 1-2A tourney opener last Monday night, the Raiders squared off against Pace last Wednesday for the right to play for a district title.

Jadan Moon’s parents walk into the R. Marion Craig Coliseum early Thursday afternoon ready to watch their son compete in the 3A state weightlifting meet.

They are here in Port St. Joe, nearly three hours from home, to see Jadan contend for the state title he has been chasing all season, the one he vowed to win for him his mom, Daphnie, who is battling stomach cancer.

Late surge carries Navarre to victory in district flag football tourney

Courtney Danforth caught a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and lead Navarre to a 12-0 win over Tate in the opening round of the District 1-2A tournament Monday night in Cantonment.

The win over the fourth-seeded Aggies sends the fifth-seeded Raiders to the final four of the tournament for the second consecutive season.

Navarre Raiders shine at district track meet

Three Raider athletes won championships in their respective events at the District 1-4A meet Saturday at Emerald Coast Middle School, with Rachel Leggett winning titles in the high jump and long jump.

Freshman standouts Eddie Love Jr. and Dante Core also won championships, with Love sprinting to a win in the 200 and Core claiming the triple jump crown.

Jessi Farrer found herself in a tight situation last Tuesday night, one enveloped in pressure, the Raiders clinging to one-run lead on the road against Choctaw.

It hadn’t been an easy night for Farrer, and she could have been rattled to the point of no return after giving up a home run earlier in the seventh inning.

Nearly a dozen Navarre athletes signed national letters of intent Wednesday afternoon during a signing day ceremony in the cafeteria.

Included in that group were a pair of NCAA Division I signees, Rachel Leggett (South Alabama) and Emma Simon (Alabama State).

Navarre unable to keep momentum rolling against Patriots

Angel Rhodes took off down the field last Wednesday night, leaving the defenders behind her as she scored on a 56-yard catch-and-run play that gave Navarre its first points of the night in a flag football showdown with Pace.

It was a silver lining on a challenging night in which a slow start was too much to overcome in a 32-6 loss to the Patriots at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Just after 8 a.m. on a Friday morning, Navarre’s boys weightlifting team is hard at work, the focus all in on carving out a special place in school history.

Music blares over the speakers, the sound of weights clanking mixed in with it, the lifters encouraging and working with each other to make the most of this morning workout just days before the 3A state meet in Port St. Joe.
