Florida touts itself as the king of football in the country, and in some respects, that statement rings true. The track record of players from here who have gone on to become big-time stars in college and the NFL speaks for itself. Few states have had that kind of success over the years.

Maintaining democracy depends to a great degree on citizens understanding how it works. Unfortunately, too many in Santa Rosa County don’t. Some people believe the First Amendment protects their “right” to speak on any topic they want, for as long as they want, as often as they want, with that “right” extended to rebutting any reply to their original rant.

We want to send a shout-out to Brian Lester’s girlfriend Meighan for going above and beyond for us at football games (and other sporting events we cover as well). This Friday night as I was watching our coverage, I noticed video clips that we don’t normally have.

Neither of the bedrooms I used had its own unit.) I regularly went to summer camp in Avon Park, Florida; there was no air conditioning in the cabins, mess hall, arts and crafts building or the gymnasium.

Working in a newsroom, specifically our newsroom, every day we hear 911 dispatchers handing out emergency calls to our fire departments and ambulances. Some are less emergent than others. Not every day is filled with fires or disasters, but every single day you will hear a call for an overdose. Some days more than one. It is a near guarantee.

It is Wednesday, August 16, my wife and I are in Mooresville IN having just buried her father. Russ Lambert was 106 years old. Recently, I was thinking about all that he had witnessed in his lifetime. He was born in Indianapolis in March of 1917. In April of that same year, the United States entered World War I.
