For God’s Sake: Have a thankful heart
I am forever losing things – keys, wallets, shoes – you name it, I can lose it. So prone am I to losing things that one year for Christmas, my wife bought me a chip that attached to my key fob that would show the location of my keys on a map on my smartphone. Great idea, but I lose things at home and the mapping feature was not that precise.

Out and About
Last week I was rushing around getting ready for work, and I let the dogs out one last time before leaving for a meeting, and I was about to be late. Turns out, I was. One dog came in, and the second dog was nowhere to be found. So, I called out and she came around the corner with a very recently deceased squirrel in her mouth. She proudly plopped it down on the cement and then strutted into the house – very happy with herself.

It happens every year. Student athletes and their family and friends fill cafeterias, gymnasiums, media centers, and sometimes even offsite locations, to sign national letters of intent.
It happened again last Wednesday, here in Santa Rosa County, throughout the state and across the country.

For God’s Sake: trust in Christ
There is an old news story that has been imprinted on my mind since I was a 4-year-old child. In July of 1960, a 7-year-old boy named Roger Woodward was swept over the edge of Niagara Falls and dropped nearly 200 feet into the roiling waters below. He survived.

I went to the AMC Theater on W Street in Pensacola last weekend to see “The Boys in the Boat.” It was a Friday night, which is usually a popular “date” night. However, when we arrived, there were only a few others in the theater. The movie, directed by George Clooney, was well worth seeing, but there were only about eight of us in the movie theater by the time the movie started. When we exited at 8:45ish p.m., the concession stand was closed, and it was like a ghost town.

In the middle of its celebration last Tuesday night, members of the Navarre Raider girls soccer team paused their enjoyment of the moment to console a heartbroken Pace Patriot team.
The Raiders didn’t have to do it. They could have carried on with their celebration, savoring the 2-0 victory they earned in a hard-fought game on a cool January evening at the Ashton Brosnaham Complex in Pensacola.

For God’s Sake: Pursue knowledge
I had a short career in the animated film industry as an animator of such popular cartoons as Scooby Doo and The Flintstones. Every Saturday morning, I not only watched the cartoons I had animated, but also the credits that ran at the end just to see my name in them.
