You will notice a lot of pictures from Red, White and Blues Weekend in this issue. To be honest, I took more than 2,000 photos over two days and ended up with less than 20 decent photos. It is tough to take decent photos of the Blues. You never know which way they are coming from and at the last second, the sneak up behind you.

The YMCA is now registering through Aug. 9 for soccer this fall. Youth soccer is for ages 4 to 12 and Itty Bitty is for ages 2 and 3.

Confederate flag a symbol of hate
The Confederate battle flag should not be flown anywhere in the United States of America. This flag for many is a symbol of anti-civil rights, slavery and the Ku Klux Klan. For others and groups such as the Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, the flag symbolizes their heritage and they feel they should display it proudly.

An open letter to the community
In December 2009 when the shuttered Zoo of Northwest Florida was purchased, the Florida Fish & Game Department said they would not renew the zoo’s licenses for a new owner because of the past history of the zoo; too many promises had been made and then broken again and again.
