Thanksgiving has come and gone and now we can all move on from listening to what everyone is thankful for and switch gears to hearing what everyone wants for Christmas.

Out and About
A timeline of historical milestones in Navarre as provided by the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce can be found in this issue thanks to the scrapbooks of Shirley Brown. If you have read Navarre Press for any amount of time, or have lived in Navarre for the past 10 years or more – you know of the tireless efforts of Charlie and Shirley Brown as they were part of the glue that pulled this community together. And, you will see signs on the side of Hwy. 98 aptly dedicating a portion of the highway in memory of their service to our community. Of note, is that the Navarre Beach Area Chamber broke ground on the Navarre Community Center – the same community center that was later sold to the Navarre Beach Area Board of Realtors. The money for that sale was to be set aside for a new community center, but, I believe it was earmarked to go toward our multimillion-dollar park renovation where the chamber currently is located within the county building.

Bear Wise would be good to go with says I
I have lived around and with wild animals all my life. I did problem animal control for several years for Parker County in Texas. Coyotes, feral dogs, beavers and the like on large ranches. Humans are the problem and we are not going away. The animals do what they do and they do not know how to be politically correct. Hence I see them as victims.

A house burned – where are the fire hydrants?
Wednesday, before Thanksgiving, a home on Tupelo Street burned. It was fully involved when the Holley Navarre Fire District and other agencies arrived – and what they discovered was not unusual for them. There was no fire hydrant on the street. Instead of hooking up to a hydrant to fight the fire, they had to rely on tanker trucks to provide the water.

Confetti littered the track below the visiting side of the stadium. The scoreboard still burned bright, the numbers 52-21 as clear as day, numbers that favored St. Augustine in its convincing win over Navarre on the East Coast of Florida Friday evening.

Commission leadership not much better
Mr. Cole is now County Commission Chairman, better than Robbie Williamson. But, Mr. Cole said his goals were infrastructure improvements, lessened traffic congestion, new recreational facilities, drainage improvements, growing the economy and tourism attractions; please, the tourist come for the weather and the beach. Well, Mr. Cole has been a Commissioner since 2002, that’s 15 years, where has he been? This type of service is just typical of the commission and has been cheating us tax payers. Mr. Cole’s goal should be to guard tax payers money, ask if new projects benefit the majority of tax payers and reduce waste and the size of the county government. Items such as consulting fees just burn up tax payers money and duplicate consulting fees happening right now.

What cancer cannot do
Every time we turn around it’s another friend, family or relative diagnosed with cancer. Is any family untouched?

When bears come calling
The situation we have in Navarre with bears is unfortunate. Scroll through Facebook and you will see both sides of the issue with neither side willing to bend on their opinion. The bears must go…don’t harm the bears…we moved into their territory…protect your children and family from bears. This all came to a head when a Navarre resident shot and killed a bear in a residential neighborhood. One side wants to put him behind bars forever and the other side is advocating for him and for change. Which side is right? We don’t know but in order to move forward we have to understand both.
