The Actual First prayer
“Lord our Heavenly Father, High and Mighty King of kings, and Lord of lords, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the Kingdoms, Empires and Governments; look down in mercy, we beseech thee, on these our American States, who have fled to thee from the rod of the oppressor and thrown themselves on Thy gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent on Thee, to Thee have they appealed for the righteousness of their cause; to Thee do they now look up for that countenance and support, which Thou alone canst give; take them, therefore, Heavenly Father, under Thy nurturing care; give them wisdom in Council and valor in the field; defeat the malicious designs of our cruel adversaries; convince them of the unrighteousness of their Cause and if they persist in their sanguinary purposes, of own unerring justice, sounding in their hearts, constrain them to drop the weapons of war from their unnerved hands in the day of battle! Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly; enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation. That the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that order, harmony and peace may be effectually restored, and truth and justice, religion and piety, prevail and flourish amongst Thy people. Preserve the health of their bodies and vigor of their minds; shower down on them and the millions they here represent, such temporal blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come. all this we ask In the Name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior. Amen.”

My town
I am the Holley Navarre Water System board director who voted against hiring Rob Williamson as CEO of the utility. My friends and family keep asking me, “why don’t you just quit? You have nothing to gain and nothing is going to change.” My answer is because this is my town. I got my first job out of college in Navarre in 1992 and have been here since then. We had a gas station at Highways 98 and 87, Winn Dixie and McDonalds. It was a small town with good, honest people. That’s why I decided this is where I wanted to be.

Bridges are important
I recently moved from Navarre to Chattanooga, and I wrote a short essay about my very special Navarre Beach bridge and bridges as connectors in our lives. I thought your readers might be interested:

Brian Out Loud
A new year means new hope.
The Cleveland Browns hope they can win a game at some point in 2018. The franchise is a mess. One of these years has to be their year. You can hope 2018 is it but probably not.

Basis for Litigation at Holley Navarre Water System
The Sept. 19, 2017, Holley Navarre Water System board meeting was peculiar in several respects. For the first time in months, all members were present. The meeting was contentious, filled with outbursts and accusations, open hostility, and President Bien May clearly lost control of the meeting; indeed, at times he personally joined in the unseemly shouting match. There was fighting and serious disagreement among the members on almost every issue, but two were at the very top of the list.

A plan without raising taxes
As always it’s good to indulge in the Christmas Kool-Aid but regarding your editorial, “The district 4 Master Plan…” it overhauls history, drops names and in short could almost convince a newcomer that incorporating Navarre will fix the problems.

Out and About
Welcome to January. Have you ever wondered how our calendar evolved and why we have twelve months and 365 days a year? I recently learned the calendar use to start with March. There is a lot of history with the calendar and how it came to be what we hang on our walls today. Attempts at calendars can be traced back to the very invention of writing in the middle east. Yes – early humans were trying to organize their days from the very beginning. They used signs offered by nature – such as the moon and the stars as early as 27th Century – BC.
