Sometimes you hit that point in the summer where you have no clue what to put into the space set aside for your column.

Tears of joy and gratitude consumed me on hearing all were rescued in the Thailand cave tragedy. I’m looking forward to 20/20’s documentary tonight.

In the most recent debate, District 4 Commissioner and candidate for re-election Rob Williamson was asked by candidate Dave Piech if he had any regrets in the nearly four years that he has served as county commissioner. The question seemed to be a gift to Rob – a chance for Rob to redeem himself.  The answer from Rob was a round-about no. But he didn’t come right out and say “no” at first. He beat around the proverbial bush…he said he is a flawed man, didn’t always get it right and said he doesn’t look in the rearview mirror. However, when asked again he said, “No, I’m good.”

When I learned the University of West Florida was getting a football team, I knew it had a chance to be special.

Fourth of July at Navarre Beach was the most patriotic event I can remember in my years in Navarre. The Navarre Beach Fourth of July Hometown Celebration and Children’s Parade was pure magic with more than 100 children participating in the parade. They decorated tricycles, bicycles, batons, children and even a little front-end loader and paraded around the parking lot led by the Cat Country 98.7 Cat and Jenna Scott to patriotic tunes compliments of Systems of Sound (Bob Levison).

We commend District 4 Commissioner Rob Williamson on his latest video. It is powerful, emotional and he speaks publicly on a very private issue – addiction. He has never made a secret of his alcohol addiction. And now he has disclosed he was “using” as well. We applaud his recovery and his claim of 10 years of sobriety.

Thank you for printing information on the candidates. It gives us time to examine their records or what they feel is important to Navarre. Not all residents of our community have computers and the bigger newspapers only care about the larger cities around us. You are doing a great job letting us know about places and events in Navarre we need to support. Keep up the good work!

We heard from a source at Williamson’s private meeting at Juana’s Monday that he said serving in the military doesn’t qualify someone to be a county commissioner. And when we heard that, we all had to chuckle a little. Apparently, in his mind, lawn mowing, tree-trimming and flower planting are better qualifications than the two master’s degrees in engineering that Candidate Dave Piech has. One of those master’s was in engineering and one was in mechanical engineering. Piech wins on education.
