The largest amount of colleges are celebrating spring break this week and next week. Florida State, University of Central Florida, University of West Florida, Troy University, University of Georgia and University of Southern Mississippi are just some of the colleges out this week.
It’s Girl Scout Cookie time! Troop #873 will have a “Cookie Drive-Thru” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Centennial Bank. Go out and support the Girl Scouts and enjoy some delicious cookies.
Jack Wetherell, founder of the Navarre Butterfly House, has passed away. The Butterfly House was first constructed in 1997 with Jack’s dedication and perseverance. Jack and his wife Fonda had previously started a butterfly collection in their backyard. We will write a tribute to Jack in our next issue. How about our soccer teams? Navarre High girls and boys are divisional champions and on the road to state. This is the first time our girls have been named division champs and the second time for our boys. As I write this I’m in a car heading toward Tallahassee where the girls will face Leon. I’ve already made plans to meet them in Melbourne for the state match-up next weekend. The boys are playing Thursday night at home and it would be great if they had a large hometown crowd cheering them on.
This Saturday morning is the 2015 Health & Business Expo at the Navarre Conference Center. There will be local health agencies and businesses that will offer many free health screenings. It is a great opportunity to meet doctors and health professionals in the area. Woodlands Medical Specialists will offer free flu shots to the first 25 attendees. There will also be door prizes and a chance to win a 40” LED Smart TV. Check out the Navarre Beach Chamber’s ad for more details. There will also be a blood mobile at the Health Expo. I’ve been saving my blood – for that very purpose.
The Holley-Navarre Water Board election is from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., this Tuesday, Jan. 20. If you are going to turn in your proxy, you need to do so by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16. The water board proxies are very frustrating – and we write about them every year. The proxies list the current board members and then have a nebulous space that says “other member.” That is the space where you write down a name of someone other than a board member to vote on your behalf.
