We have another issue that is full of newsy news. Everything from a plane landing on Navarre Beach and running over our already dead fish, the red tide fish kill, to a shooting, and a grand-theft auto. We would have more information if those that had it were a little more forthcoming. However, much of what we found out, we found out ourselves, and we were there.

We found some very spooky local stories to share with you this week. We had more, that are even spookier – including the obituaries that go with them – but…we had to wait for more information. However, the stories are going to be groundbreaking and change the known history of our area. Let me rephrase that; let’s just say that the previous “recorded” history isn’t what it has been presented to be by past self-proclaimed historians.

Last weekend was full of fun things to do as you can see by reading this issue.  I’m not sure they could have crammed one more thing into the weekend. Thankfully – it was a beautiful weekend and the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits or hinder attendance.

October is a busy month in Navarre and basically everywhere. It was mentioned at our Monday morning meeting that there seems to be more going on in October than there is during the summer. This weekend seems to be the busiest one of the month.

The “Run for the Reef” is at 8 a.m. this Saturday. There is a 5K and a 10K route as well as a 1-mile fun run. The T-shirts are worth the price of admission alone. This event benefits the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary – Snorkeling and Diving Reefs. There is also a raffle for SCUBA lessons and artwork by various local artists and photographers. Show up early the day of the race to register on the spot. This is a great event with a fun after party at Lagerheads on the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier.  Go to: navarrebeachmarinesanctuary.com, for more information. Also this Saturday – the Holley Navarre Senior Center is holding a Rummage & Bake Food Sale. The Senior Center is located across from the library which is at 8484 James M. Harvell Road. The Zoo is gearing up for its Boo at the Zoo.  You will have two weekends to take your children trick-or-treating with the animals beginning Oct. 17. Check out the new baby hippo while you are there.

This week is the official start to Beaches to Woodlands.  Organizer Karen Harrell works very hard at this monthlong event. She is talking about this being her last year – but I wish someone would talk her out of it.

We just enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day weekend in Navarre, and the “official” end of summer. However, that isn’t the case for those of us that live here. One of the best-kept secrets – if there is one anymore – is how beautiful Navarre Beach is during this time of year when most of our visitors have headed home. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy our beautiful water and shores for months after the “official” end of summer.  And, if you are a surfer, the season has just begun. This time of year, in tourism lingo, is called, “The Shoulder Season.” This is the time between when the tourists leave and the tourists (Snowbirds) return in December.  And – this is the reason that “Beaches to Woodlands” came into existence.
