This week is the official start to Beaches to Woodlands. Organizer Karen Harrell works very hard at this monthlong event. She is talking about this being her last year – but I wish someone would talk her out of it.

We just enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day weekend in Navarre, and the “official” end of summer. However, that isn’t the case for those of us that live here. One of the best-kept secrets – if there is one anymore – is how beautiful Navarre Beach is during this time of year when most of our visitors have headed home. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy our beautiful water and shores for months after the “official” end of summer. And, if you are a surfer, the season has just begun. This time of year, in tourism lingo, is called, “The Shoulder Season.” This is the time between when the tourists leave and the tourists (Snowbirds) return in December. And – this is the reason that “Beaches to Woodlands” came into existence.
The Holley Navarre Senior Center will have its community Fish Fry Sept. 18th with Sheriff Wendell Hall frying the fish. Get your tickets early as a limited number of tickets are available. See their ad for all of the details.
This Sunday, the Navarre Sea Turtle Conservation Center will hold a Trash Bash in order to keep our seas debris free. The event is from 8 to 10 a.m. and collection bags will be provided to volunteers.

We were very saddened to learn of the two airmen who died in a training accident and we hope to have more about their lives in the next issue of Navarre Press. We found out that Tech Sgt. Marty B. Bettelyoun lived in Holley By The Sea with his wife and five children.
Last week, I mentioned all of the “signs” that Navarre is growing. I forgot one important new development and that is the Spring Hill Suites going up on Navarre Beach.
