Hurlburt Field conducting hurricane readiness exercise
The 1st Special Operations Wing will be conducting a hurricane readiness exercise June 3 to 6, 2024 to maintain contingency preparedness. There will be an increase in emergency response activity and flight operations throughout the exercise.
America Ave. washed out, road closed
Over the weekend, Santa Rosa County announced that America Ave. suffered a washout. With the road compromised, Santa Rosa County officials closed the road until further notice. The closure is in between Ambassador Drive and Capitol Drive/Senate Court.

Panera Bread planned for Navarre
Navarre may soon be home to Panera Bread, the popular restaurant known for its soups, salads and sandwiches.
The restaurant chain’s Navarre store will be 3,200 square feet and one story, with parking. The overall site is around 32,000 square feet. The building will also include a drive thru.
Prepare for ‘active’ hurricane season, experts say
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an “above-normal” hurricane season. On May 23, NOAA announced they are forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total storms (winds of 39 mph or higher) with eight to 13 becoming hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher). Additionally, the organization says four to seven of those hurricanes could be classified as “major,” meaning category 3, 4 or 5 (with winds of 111 mph or higher).
New grant money awarded to VisitFlorida for ‘adventure’ tourism
The Triumph Gulf Coast Board has unanimously approved a grant of $10.5 million to VISIT FLORIDA, that will benefit all eight counties impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Santa Rosa Tourist Development Office (TDO) will see some of these funds, according to TDO director Julie White.

Holley Navarre Water System’s 2023 audit an improvement from 2022’s issue-filled audit
The 2023 Consolidated Financial Audit of Holley Navarre Water System is “significantly different” than the previous year’s audit, according to Warren Averett, the accounting firm which conducted the annual audit. The consolidated audit includes numbers for MESI and The Club at Hidden Creek, which are affiliated with HNWS.
