B-1B accident report released
A displaced fold-down baffle in the left overwing fairing of a B-1B Lancer led to a fuel leak and a series of detonations that disabled the aircraft prior to it crashing Aug. 19, 2013, near Broadus, Montana, according to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board report released Dec. 30, 2013.

Milton man fires shots at trailer
A Milton man was arrested Sunday for firing shots while under the influence of alcohol after he got into a confrontation with a woman and her boyfriend, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. No one was reportedly injured.

Teen confesses to murdering mom on Christmas Eve
William Brandon Aydelott, 17, of Gulf Breeze, reportedly confessed to the Christmas Eve murder of his mother, Sharon Hill Aydelott, a Holley-Navarre Middle School teacher and Gulf Breeze High School cross-country coach. Brandon Aydelott is accused of stabbing and beating her to death following an argument, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

5 firms recommended for TDC marketing
Despite not having enough appointees present for a quorum, attendees at a specially called Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC) meeting Jan. 7 decided to use prior input from council members to develop a committee list of five bids to recommend for further consideration for the TDC marketing services contract.

Turbulent transition at pier
TC’s Coastal Porch, LLC took over operation of Navarre Beach Fishing Pier Jan. 1, following what one partner described as an eventful transition. Santa Rosa deputies responded to the county-owned pier four times Dec. 28 after previous contractor Pier, Inc.’s employees were observed using sledgehammers to demolish wooden structures on the deck. Although one commissioner called for prosecution in the matter, two county officials later decided the demolition had been within the rights of the contractor.

$7,500 Community Center survey scratched
After receiving feedback from other commissioners and residents, Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Jim Melvin halted further pursuit of a $7,500 contract with the University of West Florida to solicit local input on the proposed Navarre Community Center.

Woman drives drunk with child
