America Avenue at 1998 in the Midway area has reopened following a brief closure due to road erosion after heavy rains early Saturday morning, June 1.

Jared Lowe named new assistant county admin
Santa Rosa County has a new county administrator in Brad Baker, who previously served as assistant county administrator. To fill Baker’s previous role, the county appointed Jared Lowe, an administrative services director who has been with the county on and off again since 2019.

180K gallons of untreated wastewater spills at Holley Navarre Water System’s Pepper Drive site
On June 1, Holley Navarre Water System’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) suffered a spill of 180,000 gallons of untreated wastewater. The location of the spill was 2190 Pepper Drive, in Holley By The Sea.
According to an initial report sent by HNWS to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the spill started at 6:30 a.m. and concluded at 2100 (or 9 p.m.). HNWS was first made aware of the incident when Chris Legg, the WWTP operations manager, arrived at the site Saturday, June 1, at 7 a.m.

Politics for Santa Rosa School Board? Amendment 1 would tie school board seats to political parties
In November, voters will decide whether school board races should be partisan.
Currently, Santa Rosa School Board seats are all non-partisan, meaning board members are not tied to a political party. If Amendment 1 passes, then board members can campaign as part of a political party.

Several patients taken to hospital for treatment after rollover accident in Midway
Several people involved in a crash at the intersection of Gulf Breeze Parkway and Woodlawn Beach Road Tuesday afternoon were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment, according to information shared by the Midway Fire District. With electric vehicle use on the rise, Navarre area fire chiefs discuss fire safety
Electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States have skyrocketed since their emergence on the market in the 2010s. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which is under the direction of the Department of Transportation, from 2018 to 2021, EV sales doubled. In the years since, EV sales have continued to go up. In 2023, 1.6 million were sold, a 60% increase from the million sold the previous year.

America Ave. washed out, road closed
Over the weekend, Santa Rosa County announced that America Ave. suffered a washout. With the road compromised, Santa Rosa County officials closed the road until further notice. The closure is in between Ambassador Drive and Capitol Drive/Senate Court.

Brother and sister donate over $1,000 to Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center
When they aren’t designing jewelry or going to school, you’ll find Croix and Kai at the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC). The brother sister duo, ages 10 and 9, make and sell bracelets at various markets along the Emerald Coast.
