Fifty deaf people walk into a restaurant. It sounds like the start of a joke, but it is actually a common sight each month at restaurants across Northwest Florida.

The 50 people are part of a luncheon group called 50 North Deaf Seniors. “50 North” refers to the age of the members, 50 and older.

Alongside Santa Rosa County, Holley-Navarre Water System is currently in the planning phase for the Tom King Bayou Septic-to-Sewer project.

The grant funded project will potentially impact 189 homes in the Tom King Bayou area. The $3.46 million grant is from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and was dispersed to HNWS by the County.

Holley-Navarre Fire District is a 53-square-mile fire district, home to around 47,000 residents. District leaders say more funding is needed to protect the area.

HNFD Fire Chief Kevin Lewis and firefighters met with community members Thursday, June 11, for a town hall at La Sala Event Center in Holley to discuss the current status of the district and discuss the reason they will ask for a fire assessment increase in August.

County commissioners will decide the fate of a controversial development in Navarre June 22.

The Bluffs Development of Navarre, LLC, is an RV park project which would be built just south of the proposed Wawa development at the 9600 block of Navarre Parkway. Both developments would share an entrance from Highway 98 at the southern end of the intersection of Whispering Pines Boulevard.
