Postal service asks for postage increase
The price of a postage stamp for first class mailings of a letter (1 oz.) is set to rise to 55 cents January 27 if the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) passes the increase. Currently, the first-class rate is 50 cents. It will be the first increase since 2014, when postage stamps went up to the 50-cent mark, up from 48 cents.

Milton man sentenced 15 years on drug charges
Rodney Eugene Davis, 42, of Milton was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Driving While License Suspended pursuant to Habitual Offender and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Tourism council backs funding for wildlife refuge
After balking at a request for nearly half a million dollars, the county’s Tourist Development Council did agree Jan. 3 to fund $117,000 for animal habitats at the new Holley location of the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge (ECWR).
