Standoff in Midway ends peacefully

A standoff that lasted a little over two hours at a home on Village Parkway in the Midway area ended peacefully early Friday afternoon when an armed individual surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

Governor to Obama:  Fund Zika fight now

In late January, the first concerns about the Zika virus began to surface in the state of Florida.  By February, the first alert was issued and Santa Rosa County had reported its first and, to date, only case of the mosquito-borne illness which was travel-related.  On Feb. 2, the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County said there were a total of nine cases in the state and all were travel-associated cases.

Aerial demonstration team crashes throughout history 

Air Force Academy, Colo. — Two fighter jets from the military’s elite performance teams crashed within hours of each other Thursday. A U.S. Air Force Thunderbird jet crashed in Colorado Springs, Colo., following the group’s traditional performance at the Air Force Academy commencement. A Navy’s Blue Angels pilot was killed when his F/A-18 fighter jet crashed near Nashville, Tenn., where the team was practicing for a scheduled performance this weekend.

Blaze destroys Navarre home

A residence in the 2200 block of Calle de Castelar in Navarre was destroyed by fire at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2.  Chief Ron Norton of the Holley-Navarre Fire District said in a release that the 911 call reported a fire in the garage of the house.
