Mississippi man takes home grand prize in GOAT Kayak Fishing Tournament
Aaron Clay of Kiln, Mississippi was the big winner at Saturday’s GOAT Kayak Fishing Tournament. He reeled in a 36-pound cobia, two red snapper and two king mackerel to take home a $5,000 prize.

Authorities pursue suspect on Interstate 10
Deputies from Escambia and Santa Rosa county pursued a man Saturday evening who had outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. The pursuit took place, in part, on Interstate 10 in both counties. The Florida Highway Patrol briefly assisted with the pursuit. The driver was in a Kia hatchback, according to officials.

Adams Sanitation, which has 9,000 customers in the north end of Santa Rosa County, has submitted a permit to provide garbage pickup in the south end of the county.
The permit, filed Wednesday, was submitted with a letter challenging the county’s “exclusive franchise” agreement with Waste Pro. According to the letter, written by Adams’ legal representative Nathan Boyles, the ordinance assuring franchise exclusivity was adopted by the county June 9, 2011.
Commissioner verbalizes support of school resource officers, votes against funding
In a whirlwind of yelling, confusion and he-said-she-said during a Board of County Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning, District 3 Commissioner James Calkins voted to withhold funding from School Resource Officers in Santa Rosa County even though he verbally supported them five times during the same meeting.
