Flight, fun, futures: Naval Aviation Museum to hold Girls in Aviation Day event
NAS Pensacola is nicknamed the “Cradle of Naval Aviation.”
In the military, it’s recognized as the birthplace of naval aviation—the home of the first formal naval aviation school, established on base in 1914. The base is also home to the National Naval Aviation Museum, which was established in 1962 and displays the rich history of the very profession it’s named for. In the last few years, the museum has hosted an annual event for Girls in Aviation Day on Nov. 1 to teach young women about the profession, cultivate a love for it, and encourage young women to pursue aerospace careers.

The Navarre Beach Fishing Pier will be closed to all fishing activity from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, for required quarterly pier cleaning.
Flesh eating bacteria a concern in Santa Rosa County, across Florida
So far this year, 25 cases of Vibrio Vulnificus — a bacterium sometimes referred to as “flesh-eating bacteria” — have been reported in Florida, including five in Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties.
Santa Rosa Medical Center, one of the major care providers in the area, has treated several of the cases in their own facilities.
Navarre Beach Utilities replace valves after hydrant issue near Sonata Court
Water supply was shut off last week to various residences, hotels and businesses along the eastern side of Gulf Boulevard in Navarre as workers with the Santa-Rosa-County-owned beach utility replaced two valves along Sonata Court.
Holley-Navarre Middle School visits National Naval Aviation Museum for STEM lesson
Each year, Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties’ middle school students venture to NAS Pensacola for a lesson in science, technology, engineering and math.
Holley-Navarre Middle School is one of the participating schools.
Fee increases coming to Santa Rosa County
At the Sept. 8 Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners discussed raising fees across Santa Rosa County—including on boats, parks and facility rental fees and animal services fees. Consensus across these discussions made it clear, such fee costs in the county would be going up. During the Sept. 11 commissioner meeting, the new fees were approved.
492nd Special Operations Wing relocating to Arizona
The Department of the Air Force has selected Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, as the new location for the 492nd Special Operations Wing.
Boil Water Notice for areas of Navarre Beach rescinded
The precautionary boil water notice is hereby rescinded following replacement of valves in the distribution system and the satisfactory completion of the bacteriological survey showing that the water is safe to drink.
9/11 ceremony held at St. Sylvester Catholic Church
Sept. 11, 2025, marked the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The attacks, which were orchestrated by terrorist group al-Qaida, struck at the heart of America, wounding and then galvanizing Americans to stand patriotically against terrorists around the globe.
School board confirms Elliott suspension, replaces embattled Gulf Breeze assistant principal
Keith Elliott, the suspended I.T. professional for Santa Rosa County District Schools, has not been terminated. At least, not yet.
