It’s time to update Santa Rosa County’s economic development strategic plan, Shannon Ogletree told county commissioners Monday.

After years of complaints concerning toll prices, it was announced that tolls on Garcon Point Bridge would finally be lowered thanks to a transfer of ownership to the state of Florida.

The Santa Rosa County Zoning Board heard 15 requests for variances, conditional uses, and rezoning during a 6-hour meeting that adjourned after midnight Thursday.

With ‘kitten season’ in full swing, the Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter is looking for “medical fosters” who can help care for sick kittens that are not old enough to adopt. SRCAS says these kittens need a safe place to rest and recover until they are well and/or at least eight weeks old.

Medical fosters will be responsible for administering treatment, bringing fosters to shelter appointments, and providing a loving environment for recovery. Medical treatment and supplies are provided by the shelter, at no cost to the foster parent. The recreational red snapper season will start June 17 in Gulf state and federal waters off Florida and remain open through July 31 with 12 days in the fall.

“We are excited about Governor Ron DeSantis’ recent announcement of this year’s 57-day Gulf red snapper season, which is the longest we’ve had since the FWC began managing the season in state and federal waters,” said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Chairman Rodney Barreto in a press release.

For-hire operations that do not have a federal reef fish permit may also participate in the season but are limited to fishing for red snapper in Gulf state waters only.

The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an individual found in Jakes Bayou by Robinson Point Road in Milton.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deceased individual was located at approximately 9:15 am today, June 14.
