County to hold Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day on 19th
On Sat., Nov. 19, Gulf Breeze Community Center will host Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Amnesty Day from 8 a.m. to noon. The event offers residents the opportunity to dispose of HHW at no charge without having to drive to the Central Landfill in Milton.

On Oct. 26, District One Medical Examiner’s Services (DOMES) held their monthly meeting to discuss different options for a new facility as well as their strategy of when they should have a plan in place.

It’s official: The Pea Ridge Connector legally will be known as…Pea Ridge Connector Road.
“Everybody I know calls it the Pea Ridge Connector,” Commissioner Sam Parker, whose district includes Pea Ridge, said at the commission’s Oct. 24 committee meeting.

Judge dismisses injunction; Adams cleared to serve South End
Adams Sanitation can legally provide trash service in the south end of Santa Rosa County after a judge dismissed a temporary injunction against the Okaloosa County business last week.
Waste Pro, a private waste collection company that has a franchise agreement with Santa Rosa County, asked for the injunction against Adams Sanitation after the county commission voted 3-2 to allow Adams to begin serving customers south of the Yellow River.

Santa Rosa Schools scored above average on Florida civic literacy exam
Santa Rosa Schools have surpassed the state average on the Florida Civic Literacy Exam. The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is an assessment that began in the 2021-2022 school year. Students enrolled in US Government courses are required to take the exam.

Library event helps introduce science concepts to children
On Thurs., Oct. 20, Navarre Library held a ‘STEAMaker’ event. The event gathered children from 10 to 17 years old who are interested in robotics, coding, and other tech together for an hour each month.
STEAMaker is a play on words in reference to STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. STEAM has become a key component of education in schools and the Santa Rosa Library System created STEAMaker to help facilitate learning beyond the classroom.

Debate turns to town hall at District 4 County Commissioner election event
On Sun., Oct. 23, Ye Olde Brothers Brewery hosted what was billed as a debate between incumbent District 4 County Commissioner Dave Piech and his challenger in the race, Ray Eddington.
The ‘debate’ quickly turned into a town hall style campaign event for Piech, as Eddington didn’t attend. In an Oct. 22 post on his campaign page on Facebook, Eddington gave the reason for his absence.
