Tourist development council highlights tourism advertising efforts
The Tourist Development Office, which is responsible for promoting tourism throughout Santa Rosa County, gave an overview of their campaign to bring more tourists from the Nashville area of Tennessee to Northwest Florida at the Nov. 3 Tourist Development Council meeting.
In July, Julie White, the tourist development director for Santa Rosa County, and her team went to a Nashville event to introduce Navarre Beach to a new audience. They had a special vacation giveaway in which people could enter to win a trip to the beach.

Navarre man arrested after investigation into Pine Ranch Drive shooting
A suspect in the Pine Ranch Drive shooting case has been arrested. Joshua Richard Huston, 47, is currently in Santa Rosa County Jail for his role in an incident that put a man in the hospital with a gunshot wound on Mon., Nov. 7.
According to the warrant report for Huston’s arrest, deputies responded to a reported shooting at 2075 Pine Ranch Drive in Navarre yesterday at 2 a.m. According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies encountered Huston, who owns the undeveloped lot where the shooting occurred.

Answering the call: A reporter’s ride-along with Holley Navarre Fire
We all know the familiar sound of a firetruck. The sirens blaring, the horn coming in every time a car is in the way or when passing through an intersection. The firefighters of Holley Navarre Fire District say they have been hearing that sound more and more, and with 53 square miles to cover, it can be difficult to manage.
In response to the increase in needs of the community and of the fire district, HNFD is looking to increase their revenue via referendum. On the Nov. 8 ballot, voters have a decision to make: should HNFD levy ad valorem taxes instead of non-ad valorem taxes?

FWC shoal bass conservation efforts proving to be a success
Shoal Bass recovery efforts continue trending in the right direction.
In May of this year, biologists from the FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management released 3,300 1 to 2-inch genetically pure, hatchery-spawned fingerlings into the Chipola River. Those Shoal Bass were spawned at the Blackwater Fisheries Research and Development Center in Holt after two failed attempts.
