The Santa Rosa County School District recognized students at a variety of schools at its meeting last month.

East Bay teacher Glenn Rutland had students launch rockets last week while students from other classes watched the demonstration.

Kimberly Winn didn’t plan to be near the very top of her graduating class at Navarre, but when she realized it might just be a reality in her high school career, the senior took aim at the goal.

Matt Wyatt was 16th in his class at Navarre High midway through his freshman year and soon rose up the ranks as he made a push to being No. 1 in the Class of 2022.

It all worked out in the end for Wyatt, who is this year’s valedictorian.

Each day at Holley-Navarre Middle School, the flag is raised and lowered by a select group of students.

These students are members of the Student Leadership Development Course, a program that has been at Holley-Navarre Middle since 2017. It has been taught by Lt. Col. Dan Schmidt since 2018.

The Santa Rosa Education Foundation (SREF) announced Cailyn Hamstra at Gulf Breeze High School as the 2022 Santa Rosa Rookie of the Year during their Rookie of the Year Reception Wednesday afternoon, May 4. She was selected from a field of 35 educators with three or less years of teaching experience who were honored at this event. The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation presented Hamstra with a $500 award.

On a beautiful sunny morning at Navarre High School’s stadium, emergency response tones pierced the air and hushed the crowd of juniors and seniors attending a Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) demonstration about the consequences of drunk driving.

It’s not everyday that you see a kid behind a grill, but for those at Shoreline Park in Gulf Breeze on April 23, they had a front row seat.

Navarre High School seniors are getting a second chance to attend prom. Parents and people in the community are hosting a second prom for those unable to attend the first due to limited ticket sales.

At the April 7 meeting of the Santa Rosa District School Board, Superintendent Dr. Karen Barber and the board announced the hiring of a coordinator for federal programs.

The position will be filled by Bobbie Lewter.
