Katherine Borden took the longer road to a career in teaching. She started out as a substitute teacher and soon knew without a doubt that this is what she wanted to do long-term.

For six weeks during September, October, and November, Woodlawn Beach Middle School students met regularly to work on a project.

While students working on a project at school might not be a surprise, these students weren’t just putting together a paper mache globe. They were building a robot.

With the school year in full swing, teachers of the year have been announced. At Holley Navarre Intermediate, the teacher of the year is fifth grade teacher Brandy Brewer.

She found out that her peers voted to give her this award on Oct. 4.

Karen Cody wasn’t expecting to be Navarre High’s Teacher of the Year. Not when she had just won the honor a few years ago. The odds didn’t seem to lean in her favor.

So, when it was announced that Cody had earned the recognition, she was caught off guard.

On Oct. 25, Pensacola State College students took to the stage in Jan Savage’s honors theatre class at Navarre High School to perform a 30 minute version of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor.

The performance is part of six shows PSC is doing across Escambia and Santa Rosa County under the banner of the ‘Shakespearience Caravan.’ All six shows are at high schools.

Each year, West Navarre Intermediate School hosts a family STEAM night to help engage students and their parents in some of the concepts being taught in school.

On Tues., Oct. 25, West Navarre Intermediate held a special Halloween themed STEAM night called ‘STEAM isn’t Scary.’

Santa Rosa Schools have surpassed the state average on the Florida Civic Literacy Exam. The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is an assessment that began in the 2021-2022 school year. Students enrolled in US Government courses are required to take the exam.

Santa Rosa Education Foundation is pleased to announce the thirty-five nominees for Santa Rosa Teacher of the Year. Nominees were selected by their peers at schools throughout the district.

Sports are exciting enough, but when you add the roar of a crowd, they can become magical.

Student sections play a significant role in raising school spirit and creating a one-of-a-kind atmosphere at high school sports events. Sometimes they can even impact a game through homefield advantage.
