Masks no longer mandatory in schools, effective immediately

There was standing room only at a special school board meeting Monday morning to hear from the public and then vote on the mask mandate in Santa Rosa County school district.

After the board heard from 17 parents and frustrated citizens, all speaking up against the mask mandate, the motion to make masks recommended instead of mandatory passed unanimously.

Classroom turns into a poetry cafe

A fourth-grade classroom at West Navarre Intermediate was transformed into a poetry café Monday.

Samantha Fowler’s students have been studying poetry for the past two weeks and were given the opportunity to write their own poem, which they then read to their classmates on a makeshift stage that even featured a prop microphone.
