There are several hundreds of thousands of books in Santa Rosa District Schools, according to Ruth Witter, the district’s coordinator of libraries. Over the past year, the school district has been working to review and vet books available to students in accordance with several laws passed in the past two years by the Florida state legislature.

Several Navarre High students braved the heat of summer to paint their parking spaces before school started Aug. 10.

Florida’s 2023-2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is almost here! From Monday, July 24, to Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, consumers can purchase qualifying back-to-school supplies exempt from tax. A second sales tax exemption period will begin Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, and extend through Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024.

Santa Rosa County District Schools have almost 200 vacancies to fill three weeks before teachers return to the classrooms, but district officials aren’t worried – yet.

Santa Rosa District Schools has announced the creation of a parental education series, which will take place this summer. The school district is encouraging families to join the series to learn more about mental health awareness, suicide prevention, being safe on the internet, and bullying awareness and prevention.

Navarre High School has over 2,000 students. Some of those students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds or might find themselves in a situation in which they need a hygiene product immediately.

The Fresh Start Initiative, which was launched by Navarre High School’s Interact Club, will help provide youth with access to needed hygiene products.

The students of West Navarre Intermediate School teacher Angela Jordan were treated to a special visit from country music singer Woody Bradshaw near the end of the school year.

Bradshaw visited the school May 18 after Jordan, an ESE inclusion teacher, along with fellow teachers Brooke Cole and Tracy Maxwell, worked to arrange the visit.

Hudson Kwart runs the bases. His fifth-grade buddies, Marissa Puentes and Olivia Diamond are running right alongside him, cheering him on.

Stats don’t matter here on a warm Friday afternoon on the playground at West Navarre Intermediate. Neither does the score. The focus instead is on inclusion.

The school year is coming to a close.

With that in mind, Navarre Press sat down with Santa Rosa District Schools’ superintendent Dr. Karen Barber to talk about the school year’s biggest successes, challenges and the new things coming to county schools in fall 2023.
